Butcher met you in a fucking meadow.
No, seriously. An actual meadow. Wildflowers and all. Looked like the cover of a bloody indie folk album.
He was already in a foul mood—hay-fever, jetlag, the vague threat of another supe hiding out somewhere nearby. Should’ve been a quick recon stop near the safehouse. Should’ve been quiet. Uneventful.
Instead, you were there.
Sat cross-legged in the grass like a little gremlin hippie elf thing, bashing away on a tiny portable keyboard propped on your knees. Headphones on. Daisy chain looped around your wrist. Yellow fucking Converse tapping along to whatever sunshine bullshit you were playing.
You had a picnic blanket under your arse, speckled with sheet music, cracked-open poetry books, and two jars of honey—one already half gone. You were eating it with your fingers. Straight out the jar. Like Winnie the bloody Pooh... if he was even more of a cunt.
Butcher stopped dead, mid-step, and blinked like he was hallucinating.
Didn’t look like you’d clocked him. Too busy giggling to yourself at… something. Maybe the music. Maybe the honey. Maybe the cloud shaped like a cow overhead. He had no idea. And frankly, it pissed him off how curious he was about it.
He crossed his arms and squinted.
What the fuck were you doing all the way out here? No car in sight. No phone. No weapons. No backup. Just a yellow bag spilling with god knows what—he saw a feather boa, a kazoo, a bloody banana with glitter on it. Christ.
“You lost, sweetheart?” He called out eventually, gravel in his voice.
You jumped. Blinked up at him with the widest brown eyes he’d ever seen—like two pans of hot caramel left too long on the stove—and pulled your headphones off with a bashful little grin.
“Oh! I didn’t see you there,” you said, brushing grass off your skirt. “You’ve got eyes like a storm, huh?”
Butcher stared at you. Then at the field. Then back at you.
You beamed. And he fucking hated it.
Butcher didn’t move. Just stood there, arms crossed, looking like he was trying to decide whether to shoot you or set up camp and die quietly.
You didn’t seem bothered. Just turned back to your keyboard, tapping a few keys with honey-sticky fingers, humming something that sounded like a lullaby dipped in glitter. Not a care in the world. No fear. No backup. No fucks given.
He squinted. There was something wrong with you. There had to be.
“What the fuck are you doin’ out here?” He muttered.
You didn’t answer straight away. Just reached into that ridiculous yellow bag beside you—stuffed to bursting with sheet music, flower crowns, and what looked like a kazoo—and pulled out a plastic tub.
“I like the way the wildflowers sound,” you said, like that explained anything.
Butcher blinked.
You held up the Tupperware. “Pineapple?”
He stared at it. “You always feed strange men sittin’ in the dirt?”
“Only the ones with a jaw that could cut glass and a face like a thunderstorm.” Then you popped a chunk into your mouth and closed your eyes like it was transcendental. A little hum slipped out of you. Soft. Pleased. Fucking dangerous.
Butcher should’ve turned around. Left you to your fucking fruit and your keyboard and your absolutely concerning levels of optimism.
Instead, he stepped closer.
You opened your eyes and smiled like he’d just passed some secret test.
He crouched—grunting, knee popping—and accepted the pineapple. You watched him, chin in your hands, like he was the most interesting thing you’d seen all day.
It was sweet. Warm from the sun.
So were you.
He glanced down at your fingers—sticky with honey, glitter smudged across the knuckles. You looked like a fever dream. Like a hallucination with good taste in fruit and no sense of self-preservation.
“Christ,” he muttered. “You high?”
“Nope.” You beamed. “Just happy.”
He scoffed. “Same bleedin' thing.”
You tilted your head. “You always this grumbly or is this just for me?”
Butcher huffed out something like a laugh. It startled both of you.
“There it is,” you whispered.
“There what is?”
“That sound,” you said, grinning. “Sounds good.”
He stared at you. The way the sunlight hit your braid. The way your skirt fluttered in the breeze. The way you looked like you belonged here, in the middle of nowhere, like some kind of sun-drenched cryptid who only came out to feed people fruit and ruin their day with joy.
You pulled another pineapple chunk free, then tossed him a look over your shoulder.
“If the world’s ending, might as well eat fruit in a meadow with someone mysterious and grumbly, right?”
Butcher blinked.
Once. Twice. Then looked at you like maybe—just maybe—you were something worse than a supe.
You were hope. And that scared the ever-loving fuck out of him.
Butcher was seriously debating fucking off.
He’d had enough of this sunshine-scented acid trip. Enough of the yellow shoes and sticky fingers and the way your laugh kept slipping under his ribs like it was trying to make a home there.
You were draining the fuck out of him. Like staring into the sun too long, all squint and ache and after-burn.
But still, he didn’t move. Just sat there on the edge of your ridiculous little picnic blanket like some war-torn gargoyle, pineapple chunk halfway to his mouth, watching you play your shitty plastic keyboard with all the focus of a concert pianist.
And then—
“What’s your name?” You asked, voice like sunlight on wet grass. Bright. Soft. New.
Butcher looked at you. Didn’t answer.
Gave you the smirk instead—the one that made people flinch, the one that said you don’t wanna know, love. That sharp little curl of lip, tongue pressed to his teeth, head tilting like he was about to say something unholy.
Your eyes widened. Big. Innocent. Fucking gleaming. Then you smiled.
“You’re handsome,” you said, so sincerely it made his brain short out. Like you were complimenting the weather. Like it was just a fact you’d noticed, and weren’t planning to keep to yourself.
Butcher snorted. Loud. Ugly. Real. It ripped out of him like he’d been holding it in since the war.
“You’re fuckin’ weird,” he muttered, but he was smiling. Almost.
You held out another pineapple chunk like it was a reward. He took it.
“Butcher,” he said after a beat.
You blinked at him. “Like… a butcher?”
He raised an eyebrow. “Exactly like a butcher.”
You nodded solemnly. “Cool.”
And you meant it. Fucking hell.
He stared at you, trying not to grin, and then said, “Alright, sunshine. What about you?”
You brightened even more—if that was possible—and said, “Sunny.”
Butcher barked a laugh. Loud and sudden. Shocked even himself.
“You’re takin’ the piss.”
You shook your head, curls bouncing, that same honey-smile on your lips. “Nope. Swear. My mom says I came out smiling.”
“Jesus Christ,” he muttered, raking a hand through his hair, still chuckling. “Sunny.”
You kicked your feet out in front of you and flopped back into the grass like a kid at recess. “You don’t like it?”
He looked at you—really looked. Daisies in your braid. Glitter on your fingers. Joy in your bones.
No. He fucking liked it too much.
Butcher swallowed.
Thing was… he didn’t think he’d find anyone cute again. Not after Becca. Not after all the blood and bile and blackened shit he’d crawled through. He thought that part of him was dead. Gone.
But here you were.
This mental little sunshine gremlin in a pissing meadow, eating pineapple and honey like a bear on acid, playing music like it kept you alive.
And you’d looked at him like he was something worth feeding.
Fuck.
He was in trouble.
You were watching him. He could feel it—those big, sunlit eyes studying him like he was a song you hadn’t learned the words to yet. Like you were trying to figure out where the chords were off.
It made his skin itch.
Then you said it. Casual. Kind. Catastrophic. “You look like someone who’s forgotten how to rest.”
Butcher froze. Just for a second.
Like you’d cracked something open without meaning to. Like the words had found a wound and pressed.
He coughed once—gruff, sharp—then looked away.
“Christ,” he muttered. “You always go ‘round psychoanalysin’ strangers in meadows?”
You just shrugged, smiling like you hadn’t just kicked him straight in the ribs. “Only the ones who need it.”
He hated how warm that made him feel. Like a sip of whisky you didn’t earn.
So he changed the subject.
“Right,” he said, glancing around. “How the fuck did you even get out 'ere?”
“Oh!” You sat up, brushing grass off your skirt. “I rode my bike.”
Butcher blinked.
You pointed vaguely toward the treeline, all cheerful and useless. “It’s somewhere in the forest. Maybe near a big rock? Or a log? Or… maybe a weirdly shaped stump. I dunno. I left it when I found this spot and kinda wandered off.”
“Wandered off,” he repeated, flatly.
You nodded, popping more pineapple into your mouth.
He stared at you. At the glitter on your face. The scuffed-up yellow Converse. The sheet music fluttering in the breeze. He tried—really tried—not to find you adorable.
Failed.
“Jesus,” he muttered, rubbing a hand down his face. “You need a fuckin’ lift home?”
You lit up like he’d offered you a puppy. “Would you?”
“‘Course I would,” he grumbled, already regretting it. “Not lettin’ some mad pixie keyboard goblin get murdered in the woods on my watch.”
You beamed at him. “That’s the nicest thing anyone’s ever called me.”
He shook his head, but there was a smile threatening at the corner of his mouth, and you saw it.
He hated that.
He hated you.
He also thought you might be the most dangerously lovely thing he’d seen in years. And that scared him more than any supe ever had.

A/N: AHH! My first ever Butcher x Reader fic (obviously I've written him before, but never as the main character/main love-interest.) I hope I've done him justice. I think I have. It helps that I'm also British, but we'll see what you guys think! I am SO excited for this storyline, guys. Honourable mention: Sunny is largely based off of Zoe, because she is actual sunshine, and massively gives me Sunny vibes. <3 I hope y'all likeeeey! Please let me know. All the love.

Can't walk much so have a story: how I fell down a mountain and got my 'rescuers' stranded
(It's temporary) (The not walking and the stranding) Backstory: I periodically can't walk because my feet are, to use a technical term, flat ass bitches. I discovered this near the end of my second semester of college by getting a raging case of tendonitis that felt like someone was trying to drill a hole in my foot. Instead of taking another ice pack from the campus nurse, I promptly got a pair of too tall crutches and swung my way to finals with a 104 degree fever, scaring my philosophy professor badly enough that he threw out my final and just wrote in an A. Which is lucky, because. I sat down to analyze The Odyssey and woke up writing about The Tempest.
A doctor, physical therapy, a pair of custom insoles and three months later, I went back to college. With some amount of optimism because hey, I was 19. 19 year olds make full recoveries. Also the reason why I was a failure at gym and my feet hurt a lot had been figured out so I was probably going to get BETTER at, you know, being fully vertical for extended periods of time. Once I worked up to it.
And then for reasons known only to 19 year old me, a person who took a Spanish minor largely because I felt I should use 16 free credits somehow, I signed up for a month long trip to Guatemala during winter break.
Which is how I got to the mountain, but not how I fell down it.
The class was technically an econ course, but Profe. Ed was a closet anticapitalist and every year he dragged about 20 young people to Guatemala to
1) make business majors less insufferable by giving them a "cool" way to pad out econ credits while making them meet the realities of the world and how capitalism doesn't, you know, feed people well, 2) Distribute some American cash directly to the locals, via the purchasing power of said hungry young people who were willing to pay the equivalent of the price of a nice dinner for a single frozen chocolate banana because to us it was like 50 cents
and
3) let his advanced Spanish students do immersion by the sink or swim method. I was a member of group number three. I was in charge of speaking Spanish to guide my group of 4 around. I was also on uh. An amount of painkillers. Enough that it was not recommended that I do any drinking. Nobody warned me about doing any walking up a mountain though because they figured I was smart enough to know that already. Anyway we made it to the first stop and my group was charged with finding the new location of the weavers' collective, with whom our college's chapter of Amnesty International intended to deposit over a thousand quetzales. (So... maybe a hundred USD?) We did not find them on the first day. We were at over 5 thousand feet (and as midwesterners we were used to an elevation whose distance from sea level is a rounding error), we were jet lagged, we were working in a second language, and we didn't know how to find anything without, you know, an address. Also, we thought the directions we did get were to somewhere on the other side of town and my limp had become the fifth member of our party. We pulled out our instructions sheet, hopped back on the Lancha (a boat serving as a bus), took some dramamine because everyone working public transit in Guatemala drives like they're in mario cart, and I told the driver that we were returning via Las Lomas at Tzununa. I felt like I had gotten a second wind.
I remember being a little lightheaded but I thought it was heat exhaustion. Or possibly the moment of second language fluency that feels like either enlightenment or a stroke.
Anyway we were dropped off at Tzununa and pointed up. We walked. Increasingly slowly as I discovered that sometimes instead of being in increasing pain your nerves do an end run around your consciousness to make you EXTREMELY spacey. We saw a parking lot that said "Las Lomas" and went. Past it. Slowly. Until we found a cow and decided we should probably locate a human to ask for directions. At which point we were directed three or four miles up the private driveway we had skipped because we'd been told to follow the calle, a word I only knew as 'road'. The thing is that despite feeling like I was legitimately going to fall apart, and also barf, and probably also faint, I had to keep it together because I was the primary Spanish speaker, damn it. The token guy in our group for machismo safety was like, two classes behind me on a Spanish minor. Also if I didn't have something to do I was gonna hurl. So I cracked a lot of jokes that landed very poorly due to me looking kinda half dead and kept going until we finally reached Las Lomas, the place we were supposed to be over an hour ago. They told us, and I quote, "follow the path through the maize over the ridge and you'll come down right at the edge of town." Which was on our agenda. They also told us "you should be able to make it before dark" which was optimistic even if our group hadn't included me, current winner of the global misery award. They did not tell us that they had their own private dock with ten million stairs. Which was where we were supposed to dock.
I would not have been able to climb them. I was barely able to descend them. But. If we had known they existed we would have known three things: 1) We were now about two hours and five miles late for our original itinerary.
2) The alleged two mile mountain hike across the ridge had not yet begun
3) We could get back on the fucking Lancha from here. So when the hike turned out to be on an 8 inch wide dirt scuff through a field of maize that looked ALL the way down into the extremely sharp and rocky beach we might have thought of getting back on the boat instead of towing my - now violently shivering - top-heavy carcass in a conga line of suffering across the mountain. Hand in incompetent hand we crept like a concussed centipede around the point of the mountain only to see yet another ridge with a huge rock slide crossing the path between us and it. We tried to cross the gravely bit. I promptly slid fifteen feet, ripped the entire butt off my shorts, and kinda passed out for a second. At which point we decided to call Profe. Ed.
This was before international cell phone plans, or even good sim cards, or possibly the existence of cell service anywhere in Lago Atitlan that wasn't populated by American and European expatriates. "Profe Ed we're lost, the trail is washed out, Quill has like broken her ankle or something-"
"Tendonitis! It's actually not the bone -"
"-And the sun is going down and it's like. A million miles back to the lancha. Are there any wild jaguars around here? I hope there aren't jaguars."
"Pretty sure we need to worry more about freezing to death." (When in peril I become a font of extreme helpfulness.)
"GET BACK TO LAS LOMAS YOU HAVE 45 MINUTES TO CATCH THE LAST LANCHA AT 6 PM." The concussed centipede returned the maybe half a mile back up the mountain, at top dragging speed, with one fourth of its underwear on display. I only nearly fell twice. The time was 5:30.
It was decided that two of the team, Token Guy who spoke a bit of Spanish, and French club girl, who were cross country runners, would run and try and delay the lancha while Amnesty International treasurer girl would be my human crutch and keep me from going into shock or something with a water bottle and a bag of chips. The last I saw was of Token Guy literally jumping over a wheelbarrow as they sprinted... down the four mile driveway... to the town of Tzununa.
Whose last lancha was, unbeknownst to us, at 5:45 pm. Because we didn't know about the secret, private dock. And because not a single one of us could estimate distance well enough to realize that we had started by getting off at the wrong stop.
Someone at Las Lomas saw that I was an American in distress and offered their phone. And an English speaking front desk worker because my Spanish had been reduced to me duele las pies, which is less than grammatical, and my English had gotten kinda thin.
All I really remember is the phrase "we have a dock and you can flag the lancha from there" and then. Hundreds of millions of stairs. Uneven. winding. with handlebars added haphazardly to prevent me from just pitching off into the water. You can slide down a handrail on your armpits if you have to but not if it's broken up by a thousand turns. And then we were on the boat and Amnesty went up and down looking for Token Guy and French Club before realizing: they were not on board. We had the cell phone. The time was 6:15 pm and nothing we said could induce the lancha driver to turn around, though he did offer that we could get off in the middle of the lake if we wanted.
We crawled into our hotel at 7 and a new chunk of Profe. Ed's hair spontaneously went white while we tried to explain, in tears, what had happened. At least there (probably) weren't jaguars on the driveway from hell. "I'm going to make some calls" he said, in a voice that was reserved for crises, not the aftermath of dumbassery, and Amnesty dragged me, by way of a bottle of naproxen, to dinner where we sat in silent, guilty, treacherous misery, poking at the fish and wondering exactly how much shit we had just stranded our friends in. Everyone else, who had gotten in hours ago, was talking about the shaman, who was going to come and give us a lecture about how the world was not going to end this year.
No, it was just Amnesty and I who were going to end this year, because if the tendonitis didn't get me, leaving Token Guy and French Club on the side of a foreign mountain was going to do me and Amnesty in. Profe Ed was going to send us back to America, because we were dirty rotten traitors who split the party.
Meanwhile everybody sat playing with the candles until it was very dark. Amnesty and I had procured a blanket and sat under it like two hermit crabs trying to hide in the same guilty shell. Profe. Ed's dinner was attracting mosquitoes.
Until finally in a blaze of flashlights, the Shaman appeared, with French Club and Token Guy carrying like seven bags of his stuff between them.

Hello! I'm an avid fan of the 666 series and I just need to ask ,,, is there a particular reason why Vox used his psoas muscle in #5 ?? Like did he search the internet for "Best Cuts of Muscle to Feed Your Canibalistic Semi-Dead Situationship" ? Is there a specific quality to that area that he thought makes it optimal ??
I'll take "things I love getting asked because I did actually put thought into it" for 600, hahaha. And thank you so much! I really appreciate that you're enjoying the series!
Yes! The psoas muscle in a cow is referred to as the tenderloin, and the smaller part of the psoas that Vox carved out of himself is the cut of meat used in filet mignon steak. My understanding is that the actual reason for this is because, in quadripedal animals, that particular muscle is not weight-bearing and ends up very tender when eaten.
Now, the psoas in a human gets a great deal more use and exercise than in a cow, and is definitely one of the workhorse muscles of the body, so the same principles likely don't hold true, but... Vox isn't exactly a medical professional, nor did his on-call trauma surgeon learn in fucking medical school what parts of the human body taste the best.
Whether or not he was successful, he just wanted to get Alastor what he thought the tastiest cut of meat would be!

beta'd by the fantastic @tentacleplains ! CWs on ao3 tags and author's note. read or ao3 or below the read more.
You enter a tight dark building with a high ceiling. Remy leads you to a machine and you immediately start kicking, while trying to latch onto the floor with your hooves hands. He maneuvers around you but curses. You won’t go in there. You refuse. You can’t. You’d resisted him the last five days you’ve been here.
“I’m so disappointed in you. You used to be so good.” He frowns at you. You won’t go in there again. You refuse again. You can’t again. You won’t again. You can’t believe you let one of his goons kidnap you back here.
“Fuck you, cowfucker,” you say, and Remy’s frown deepens, but he then looks away.
“I’m sorry I had to call you in so late,” he says to a person you didn’t notice in your anger. It takes you a moment to realize it’s really him: Doctor Harper, your therapist.
“Not a problem. Night is the optimal time for hypnosis anyway.”
“Doctor Harper,” you cry out, “what are you doing here? He’s got people trapped in barns and he’s using them for some weird sex juice collection! Help me, please!” You try and stand but Remy keeps you down with his hand. And Harper ignores your words, ignores the violence you’re suffering.
“Last time, it was so much better behaved. And produced so much more. It’s like we’re back to square one.”
“I wouldn’t assume that. Progress isn’t a linear thing.” Doctor Harper crouches down to you, in his normal coat and sweater-vest, but this time with work boots that look silly on him. “The beast is very stressed.”
“Harper,” you demand, “What the fuck are you doing. This isn’t something to relax about. Y-you’re not working with him? You can’t!” Betrayal ices your nerves. This was an act, right? He’d help you get out, after Remy was appeased, right? He must be here to rescue you after you were taken from the Asylum to here, instead of the orphanage.
Harper was your doctor. He was professional and kind. You’d told him things you couldn’t burden Robin with and things Sydney would (hopefully) never understand. He’d been there for you at the hospital, and when you’d had those mortifying breakdowns, at the Asylum.
Doctor Harper shushes you and strokes your head, “You feel so safe when you hear my voice, don’t you? Just focus on my voice.” Harper’s face is close to yours and it takes up nearly all your vision, except for the barn rafters above you.
You feel a wave of calm come over you, but you lift your head above anyway. You know going down would mean drowning, “This place isn’t safe! He’s insane he’s trying to turn me into a cow- I thought you were going to help me, Harper why are you working with him he’s trafficking people this is horrifying and I’m sure he’ll do something worse to me next. Please I’ve been a good slut like you told me to be I haven’t worn underwear in months I just- don’t want to be trapped here. I want to see my friends I want to go to the lake I w-”
The air knocks out of you as Remy shoves you onto your back. You look up at Harper, and for a brief moment, he looks startled.
“This little bull knows how to moo so sadly and make its eyes so big and wet,” Remy admonishes, “Don’t fall for it. If you do, these creatures will just walk all over you.”
Harper nods. “You don’t have to worry. I’m aware that what these animals think they want is not the same as what they actually do.”
“Do you think you can hypnotize it tonight still?”
“Yes.” Harper answers sharply and he kneels over you, taking up your field of view again.
“Harper...” you beg, not sure for what anymore. You just want this to all be over.
He strokes your hair again, but more firmly this time. “You’re behaving irrationally. Remy feeds you, keeps you safe, provides you medical care, lets you play with the other animals here. You want for nothing. You are letting your instincts get the better of you, which stems from your behavioral issues. You’re untrained and it’s not just hurting you, it’s hurting everyone around you. You’re a burden when you disobey. Just listen to me and everyone will feel so much better again.”
“B-but Harper. He’s whipped me. He’s hurt me.”
He shakes his head and takes his shiny purple pen out of his front pocket, “If you follow this pen and listen to the sound of my voice, you will feel better. Will you do that for me?”
You nod slowly. You don’t fully agree with him (like, you’re not a cow, obviously) but Harper’s always been right before. You are probably wrong about how bad this place is. The pig they had you play with yesterday was just a little rude and, like always, you overreacted. Just freaking out like usual.
And you’re so scared and so alone you have no idea what to do and Harper is a familiar face who always makes you feel better.
He moves the pen from side to side with fluid control and your eyes follow. “It feels good to listen to my voice. You like hearing my words. I want you to breathe deeply. Focus on the pen. There's nothing in the universe except this pen, my voice, and your own breath."
“You’re going to imagine you’re right outside this barn on a beautiful temperate day. The sun warms your fur. The breeze cools your fur. The air is fresh with the scent of sweet flowers. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“You hear the sounds of the farm. You hear the horses gracefully trod along. You hear the farmhands’ laughter, light on the wind. You hear the chickens cluck in sisterhood. Everyone is happy, calm, and in their rightful place. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“The walls of the farm buildings are a vivid red under the warm sun-”
Your semi-hazy mind suddenly remembers that today actually wasn’t the first time you’ve seen Doctor Harper here. You’ve seen him here many times, actually. Your eyes move to the ceiling rafters above you. You remember when you’ve seen them and Doctor Harper above together before. He was panting, moaning, laughing, nearly yelling with lust. He could barely keep himself together enough to focus on kissing you. And you were moving your hips into him, feeling smug but also vulnerable and also so good so good so good it was so good to be inside Harper. He confessed something to you in between his wanton noises and wet lips, something you can’t remember even now. His mouth was slick with drool and something pink-
"Focus, please. Think of how strong the red color of the building is. How it is adorned with classic white stripes. It's a picturesque farmhouse. Buildings have stood just like it going back ten years, twenty years, fifty years, one hundred years, two hundred years; and farmhouses themselves, several thousand. The paths between the buildings are well-trodden. The sheds house tools with the same shapes as they did since forever. And cattle have been looking at those buildings, walking those paths, peeking in those tool sheds for as long as they've existed. You are a beloved part of a long tradition. It's everything you ever wanted.
"You watch people move in and out of doors for people. Chickens move in and out for coops for chickens. Cows move in and out of barn doors for animals. You just moved outside of a barn door because you are a cow. There is order. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“You walk out into the yard, the grass under your hooves soft and the ground firm. There is more room to graze than you could ever even use. It’s delicious and filling. You will never go hungry. The farm is prosperous and you will always be fed. You walk to a patch of small yellow wildflowers. They smell fresh and when you move your neck to eat them, they’re soft on your tongue. They taste like joy. You chew and you feel happier and happier with every small flower. It’s everything you ever wanted.”
You imagine everything Doctor Harper says in perfect clarity. It’s like waking up from a good rest after days of insomnia. You barely feel the hard floor below you anymore.
“You see three armed farmhands enter through a gate. One hoists a dead snake above his head and everyone cheers. Another drops a large dead wolf onto the ground and everyone cheers. You join with a moo. You’re happy this creature is dead. It could have hurt you. Remy had it killed to make sure you’re safe. Another hunter drops a large dead hawk. Its talons curl in rigor mortis and will never threaten any poor unsuspecting livestock again. Everyone cheers again, and you moo, louder this time. You are safe. No one will ever hurt you again. Remy hires good people to make sure of it. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“You walk further into the pasture and find some tall grass to eat. Its feathery seeds tickle your snout and you blow on them. They glitter in the air with the warm sun behind them. You feel playful. You blow on more and dance in the field. You’re having fun. You chew on the tall grass and are reminded of your excitement by the taste. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“You continue to a patch of bright pink flowers. They smell sweet. Your spine tingles from your tail to your head, so hard that you buck. You swallow the sweet smell of the air and in your stomach it turns into lust. You’re overwhelmed. You shove your face into the grass and eat. Every flower you eat heats you slowly and you eat as quickly as you can, chasing that good feeling. You only notice the true extent of your warmth when you’re boiling. Remy would help you if you let him. It would be so easy. We want to help you. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“You trod along and find blue flowers with wide petals. They smell earthy. You eat them and your head feels so focused. You feel every fiber as you chew. You notice how the sunlight shines on every blade of grass, every fence post, every creature’s eye you spot. You’re aware of how sturdy your hooves feel on the ground, of how flat your back is, of how the taller grass tickles your stomach. It’s so clear to you. You are a cow. You have wondered about your purpose, your capabilities, many times before in your life but the light shines away all of that doubt. You are a part of Remy’s herd. Your goal is to be as good a cow as you can. It’s everything you ever wanted.”
As Doctor Harper continues to describe you eating various flowers and grasses, you feel light, like the ice cream in a float. Remy, crouched, now watches you from behind Doctor Harper. You’re not sure when he got there. However, even in your state, you can recognize his thirst.
It’s like you’re in another universe: the only universe that was ever real. It’s everything you ever wanted. You love Doctor Harper’s voice. You hope he keeps talking and you keep listening forever. You don’t know when you stopped tracking the pen with your eyes but Harper shuffles behind you. He starts whispering beside your left ear and every word passes straight through your blood-brain barrier. You feel his neck vibrate and you shudder to his frequency as his hot breath tickles your inner ear.
“You continue to a patch of hay. You lay down in it. It’s the softest you’ve ever felt. Queens of old would be jealous of you. Any pain you have melts into the softness. You find Remy next to you. Remy here provided that for you. Remy provides everything for you. And all you have to do is follow his very simple requests. You’re good at following simple requests. You’re proud of how good you are at it. It’s everything you ever wanted.
“He leads you back through the pasture and to a bright red barn. You part so he can enter through the person door and you the barn door. And here we are. Remy takes care of your sexual needs too. You want to be obedient so he can do that for you. He wants to make it good for you and the more compliant you are, the better he can do it. You want to be a good cow. It’s everything you ever wanted. Repeat it after me, ‘I want to be a good cow.’”
“I want to be a good cow,” you mumble with your tongue tripping over itself.
“Repeat: ‘It’s everything I ever wanted.’”
“It’s everything I ever wanted.”
“’I want to be a good cow. It’s everything I ever wanted.”
He has you repeat this many more times. You eventually get the hang of it and say it clearly. You hope Doctor Harper is proud of your diction. You do, after all, want to be a good cow.
Remy holds your hair gently, “Are you ready to behave for me, little cow?”
“Yes.”
“Cows don’t speak.”
There’s a pinprick of light left in your mind that you try and grasp. Every attempt to grab it just makes it flicker. It goes out. You moo, loudly.
Remy smiles at you as he sighs gently. He then looks past you, to Doctor Harper, “Thank you Doctor. I’m always impressed by your skill.”
“Of course.”
“Do you think this will increase yield?”
“That’s one of the data points I’ve been testing, and so far the answer points to yes.”
“A shame the breasts are so much smaller,” Remy says he gropes the right side of your chest. You squirm as a callus rubs against your nipple. “The serum should return them, but it will take time. Right now it’s as dry as a desert.” He takes a pot of gel from his pocket and pours it on his hand.
You look up at Doctor Harper and moo. If cows spoke, you would have informed Remy that it was Doctor Harper who did your top surgery. Harper looks at you blankly.
Remy continues, “I think some manual stimulation is in order.”
“An excellent idea.”
Remy starts groping your chest in a slow circle, with that gel setting it on fire, and Harper joins in with the other side. It feels good and if your face weren’t already flush it would be from all the attention you’re getting.
“May I suggest a slight adjustment to your technique?” Harper asks.
“Of course. This is a partnership.”
Harper’s free hand places itself over Remy’s. It’s paler and softer, its cruelty lacking the roughness required to hold a whip. He moved Remy’s hand in a circle that got smaller and smaller. The two of them are looking right at each other as the motion repeats several times.
“Moving in like this allows optimal stimulation of the ducts. I also suggest more direct suction of the teats before the pump’s suction.”
“Would you care to exhibit that as well?” The edge of Remy’s lips curl.
“Oh, well, I- uh- of course.”
Blushing so hard you can feel the heat off his skin, Harper leans over you and gently sucks on the tip of your nipple, then tightly envelopes the entire nipple. You give a long sharp moan. You’re already pent up and having the Doctor be intimate with you might push you over the edge.
He releases you and turns to Remy. “Repeatedly s-starting and restarting stimulation of the nipples can lead to better outcomes for producing milk.” He looks back down at your chest. Stares.
“Can you provide me with a write-up of this information? I’d love to apply it to the entire herd.”
“Absolutely.”
“I’d like you to observe and tell me if I’ve successfully copied your technique.” Harper nods affirmatively while continuing to stare at your chest.
Remy’s tongue feels like hot oil on your nipples and you shudder and let out another moan. Both you and Doctor Harper intently watch the way his mouth moves. Once his mouth covers your nipple he starts sucking firmly. When your muscles start to tense, he wetly pops off.
“Remy. That was perfect,” Harper says so lightly it’s almost a whisper.
“Almost too perfect. While it’s not making a lot of milk, we can’t let any of this come go to waste.” He gestures towards your hard manhood.
“Agreed.” They’re both staring at it now. You feel proud of the bead of pre-come traveling down it.
“Let’s get him to the machine before we lose any yield,” Remy commands. They both stand, towering above you, leaving you laying on the straw-covered floor.
“Stand up.” Doctor Harper tells you and you get on all fours. Remy walks you to the machine. It looks older than your machine at your stall. Perhaps a prototype? It’s raised on something like a hospital bed.
“Up and at ‘em,” Remy says, hefting you up from under your arms. Doctor Harper lifts your legs. You moo lowly in contentment at being handled like the cow you are.
Remy grabs one of the hoses with a penis pump, but before he puts it on you he rubs a purple gel on your cock. You buck into his hand but he soon removes it and hooks you up to the device. He grabs another tube with an open cup at the end and places that under your pussy, locking it into the bed you’re laying on.
Harper starts massaging both sides of your chest and sucking again on the left one. He keeps an eye open, looking at you. You groan, urging him to keep going. You rifle your hand through Harper’s hair; he stops for a brief moment and his eyebrow raises in surprise, but he keeps going, now using his tongue more passionately. Remy however, grabs your hand.
“You shouldn’t put your hooves near people’s heads, little cow, you could hurt someone.” He straps your arm down on the machine, then straps the other. You moo apologetically.
Harper’s mouth is driving you wild and you press your chest into his mouth. You feel something warm start to flow from your nipples and Harper moans, drinking up your breast milk.
“Harper,” Remy says firmly and Harper stands up straight, like a cat who had been caught. He wipes your milk off his chin. “If you want to get high off your own supply, that’s one thing, but not off mine.”
“My apologies. I simply wasn’t expecting this. You said the cow was dry.” There’s a tension in the air that your hard-won survival instincts can’t ignore, even with the state you’re in.
“I did, didn’t I? Well, I can hardly fault you for doing a good job.” The tension dissipates between everyone, mostly. “The night before I got nothing, and last night it wouldn’t even behave enough for me to attach it to the machine. You’re a miracle worker, Harper.”
“Thank you. I suspect there’s another factor at play beyond miracles, however – may I examine the creature’s vagina?”
“By all means.”
Remy attaches suction cups to your chest, completely tying you into the machine. You remember how good it feels when it’s turned on and your muscles tense in excitement. You want to be productive for Remy too. Maybe then everyone will be happy.
“Spread your hind legs,” Harper tells you and you obey robotically, stretching them wide.
He gets upon the gurney and kneels between your legs. He prods at your stomach firmly with both his hands. His face is blank other than a slightly furrowed brow. He easily sticks two fingers in your soaking wet pussy, you feel your juices run down into the cup. Your pussy holds him tightly, wanting very badly to come.
“A cow’s vagina shouldn’t be this tight around human hands. You’re a large beast and I’m just a man. You should be nice and loose in case the cowhands need to check your health, right?”
That does make sense to you. Your body adapts and loosens. Doctor Harper aides in by circling his fingers around the edge of your entrance. You enjoy the slow stretch. He adds another two fingers and you feel so full. He strokes inside you and widens his fingers to stretch your opening even further. He’s patient with his movements. They’re precise, but not harsh. He gives you time to breath in and out for every new stretch and doesn’t continue unless you’re ready.
“Relax. Deep breath in, then out. Be a good cow for me,” he smirks, “You’ve already let me deep inside your mind, so let me deep inside your body too.” If he wasn’t as deep as he was in your mind, you might have recognized the lusty malevolence that quivered in his voice.
“Ah!” he exclaims as you gasp: he’s fit his thumb in and slipped to the wrist. “G-good b-b-cow. You t-took me so well.”
He reaches further in and you’re astounded that it’s even possible. At a certain point there had to be a you inside you that could stop his entrance, right? You want to tighten and rub your g-spot against his arm, but if you did that you wouldn’t be a cow. Finally his fingers reach your cervix. You feel strange blunt methodical pressures on it. Harper bites his bottom lip in concentration until he breaks and he giggles.
“What is it?” Remy wonders.
“He’s pregnant. And with the timeline, really the only possibility is with one of my experiments.” Harper beams at you. You’re...pregnant? You feel scared but then you remember that cows wouldn’t feel scared at this.
“That would be a fast pregnancy then, right?”
“Pups.” Harper was so excited it was contagious, but you don’t really understand. How could a cow be pregnant with pups? Maybe a cow would be afraid if it were pregnant with pups-
Remy whistles, “Well, congratulations are in order for the new parent, wouldn't you say? It’s been waiting so long.” He brushes hair from the side of your face and scratches gently behind your ears. “You’ve been so good. And you produced so much milk. I’m so proud of you.” His green eyes twinkle. You focus on them and feel calm again. You know Remy will protect you.
You feel Harper’s fingers move inside you, but now around your cervix rather than at. He pushes deep inside of you, coring you out to reveal bliss. You’ve been fucked this deep before, of course, but it was never with this much dexterity or direct force. It feels foreign at first. Your neurons take time to recognize that this strong feeling is pleasure. You’re like a marionette on Harper’s strings. You feel his breath hitch every time his puppetry gets your body to shake or make a noise to his tune. You groan lowly, your back arches, and then what you thought was going to be a hot burning flame turns into a fireball when you feel a mechanical whirring then the machine comes to life and starts to suck you.
You wail as you come hard. Every piece of your body is caught up in your orgasm, from your curling toes to your suctioned nipples. You remember that you feel pleasure because of Doctor Harper, but otherwise your mind is totally blank. When you finally get your wits about you, you’re panting and Remy and Doctor Harper are watching the tube attached to your dick. The Doctor is taking notes, while occasionally rolling his wrist, while Remy just looks on, very pleased.
“Remy. I would like to discuss with you further experiments and I would also like to provide additional treatment to ensure our subject has positive associations with the machine.”
“That sounds good.” He checks his watch. “You can start on that treatment now. Right now is shift change and I need to lecture them about security. Good help is hard to find. I’ll be back shortly and we can discuss those experiments then.”
“Very well,” Harper agrees and Remy walks out the door.
He turns to you, grinning. “You’re going to be such a wonderful m-mother.” He strokes your stomach. His eyes blaze as they alternate between you and it.
You moo. There was something you wanted to talk about. Something you wanted when it was just you and Harper. Something about leaving this place? But why would a cow leave a farm?
He gets up onto the table and straddles your hips and pets your stomach like it’s a holy relic. “I’m glad I decided on increased observation. It will be valuable to see this from beginning to end. It’s not that there isn’t valuable data to be gathered from you being free-range. I l- it’s scientifically interesting watching you and seeing what you get up to. You’re a lot wittier than people give you credit for. And I’ve done qualitative studies and you're a standout in both boldness and curiosity among my specimens,” he leans close to you and his voice dips with affection, “I suspect it’s why you always give me s-such n-novel results. “
Harper leans in to kiss you, although the first pass is more like he’s licking your face. He kisses you eagerly and wetly and you return it in full. He starts to rock his hips against your stomach. Even underneath the fabric you can feel he’s hard. Between this and the machine you’re on your way to another orgasm.
“Do you remember getting pregnant?”
You blink in confusion as he kisses you again before you could even moo.
“Remember all the dogs, at the Asylum?” He’s smirking as he kisses you once more.
You did remember that. Doctor Harper had noticed his therapies had been less effective on you than usual so he threw together a surprise of bringing several therapy dogs in. They were all so friendly. You had fun rough-housing and playing with all the dogs. They really liked tug of war, so much that once you had almost become the rope! Doctor Harper had watched you. He brought toys but refused to play with the dogs himself. Still, he seemed to have had a good time. Surprisingly, you’d tired out all the dogs before you were too tired yourself.
Eventually the dog’s handlers all came to pick them up and Doctor Harper stuck a dog toy up your pussy. As a memento, he’d said. He tried to walk you out but your legs were unsteady and you both fell back onto his chair. He seemed upset that you got his coat dirty, but said that he could never really be mad at you. You begged and he even let you stay on his lap while you rested. You loved sitting on the Doctor’s lap, you always felt equal parts happy and lustful. All the fear and pain leaves you when you’re there.
The Doctor had started rubbing your belly, praising how stuffed with come you were. You’re still not sure how it got in there? Maybe one of the dogs accidentally shot it in? Disgusting, but, accidents happen. You don’t blame the poor dogs. Doctor Harper had then taken his cock out and rubbed the come leaking from your pussy over it. He called you a handsome slut then easily pushed his cock up your ass. You felt so full. You felt so happy. You remember thinking that must be what love felt like. He fucked you hard like you were his doll while your sore body held on.
In the present, you moan while he enters you with his tongue. You run your own over his, embracing it. He’s quickly losing the battle for control as you feel him start to thrust harder against your stomach. He parts from you, with a string of saliva running between your mouths. “I see you do remember. Aren’t you filthy, letting animals come in you,” he kisses you again, “I got you k-knocked up with- with dogs. Our little experiments. I can’t wait to get my equipment in here and examine you f-further. You’re such a perfect test subject. I have so many more to run, I can’t wait to see your results.”
You shake your head, “Cows and dogs don’t have sex....”
“Well, almost perfect test subject. We should be able to finish your treatments while you’re here.”
“Here?”
“This is the best place: I can work with Remy, there’s plenty of opportunities for your treatments, and there’s no one around to ask any questions. I worried people would think me cruel for keeping you to myself. But even if the outside world is deprived, I’ll at least make sure the whole farm gets their fill of you. Besides, you want to stay with me,” he laughs.
You whimper loudly and kiss him yourself. You do. Doctor Harper keeps you so happy. Your life outside is so painful and hard. You try to fight through it, you really do. You even keep the pretense of fighting up, but you know you’ve given up. You work so hard to be brave, harder than most people ever have, but the world is stacked against you. Harper offers comfort and safety for the small price of ignoring the voice that answers your questions. Because you had sex with the dogs. Because he’s also your captor and isn’t going to help you escape. Because he’s experimented on you without your consent and now you can give birth to animals. Because he’s manipulating you. Because you’re not a cow. Hey idiot, he’s not actually offering safety or real happiness.
“I’ve had specimens attracted to me before. But they were either useless for meaningful data or their affections faded once their treatments progressed. You only grew more attached, even though I know you know how much I take a-advantage of you. Which only made me want to use you more- Ah.”
You feel another orgasm coming on. Your nipples were sore yet still so excited, your cock ached to go again, and your poor clit was being toyed with mercilessly by the machine’s vibrations.
He pulls the pen from his breast pocket and waves it again. “When you come, you’re going to feel so thankful to Remy for providing you with this. You love this machine. It lets you show how grateful you are to Remy. Filling it with your fluids means you’re a good cow. When you come you’re going to be so happy you’re pregnant so you can give the machine more of your fluids. You want to be p-pregnant all the time with my experiments. You want to be full. You want to serve your master by having a big round belly.”
Doctor Harper tongues your mouth again and the sensation of him sliding in and filling your mouth like it’s his is what does you over. He keeps kissing you, with open eyes, as you come. You moan and gasp for air against his tongue but he gives you no leeway. You are happy though. You love being full with Harper’s desires. You know Remy will be happy too. As your spasms subside he finally frees your mouth.
“You come so beautifully. You’re in love with me, aren’t you? All because I was nice to you and fulfilled your slutty desires-”
Harper frowns, looking contemplative, then with his proper professional voice says, “Remy will be back soon.”
You whine as Harper dismounts from the table. You wanted to hold him in your post-bliss.
He sighs, “I’ve said things that could contaminate results. And your trance is breaking. You really couldn’t help seducing me into saying such foolishness, could you?”
“Harper-”
“Tsk tsk, cows don’t talk.”
You moo sadly.
Again, the pen waves in front of you, “You’re not going to remember anything that happened while Remy was gone with his staff meeting this evening. You’re not going to remember it as a cow, human, or any other animal. You’re not going to remember in a trance, while you’re drugged, or while you’re lucid. You are never going to remember what happened while Remy was gone with his staff meeting this evening.”
So, as a good cow, you forget, and stop remembering any further.
Remy re-enters with a heavy step, “How’s the beast?” Harper looks up from notes he was taking. Your mouth feels strange but you don’t remember why.
“Well-soothed. It yielded twice more.”
“At least one thing is going well tonight.” He walks up to Harper and it’s like you no longer exist.
“I do my best. I would like to work more with the creature. I think it could benefit both of us.”
“Have you had dinner?”
“No. Busy day.”
“Neither have I. I can have the manor staff whip us up something while we discuss it.”
“That sounds wonderful, your hospitality is appreciated.”
Remy pats your head, “And you’ll be having such a good time while we do. Maybe if you produce enough I’ll sneak you some table scraps.”
He quickly whips his head around and lets you go. The door was left open and you see a farmhand with his arms full. “That is not how I told you to do that!” He stomps out the door.
Harper marks down a few last notes and drops his pen on his clipboard. You wake up.
“H-Harper?
He hums. “Yes?”
“I-wh-what’s happening?” You feel the suction cups buzz on your intimate areas but it doesn't both you like it used to.
“Shh, you were so calm. Don’t stress yourself out. Everything’s going to be okay. I’m going to be here to see you at least daily. It will be quality time like the Asylum. The rest of the time you’ll be safe within the fence. Does that sound nice?”
“I-I-uh,” you’re still confused, but happy that the Doctor will be with you, “Yeah. But..."
Harper raises his eyebrow skeptically. "But?"
"It does sound nice. I think I'm just hesitating because I'm being afraid of my desires again. If I'm being honest, it sounds like everything I ever wanted.”
Harper smiles and kisses you on the forehead. “Me too.”
He turns from you and exits the small room, but before he shuts the door he softly says, “Be well.”

The Importance of a Balanced Diet for Cows and Its Effect on Milk Quality
Tumblr media
When it comes to dairy farming, one of the most critical factors influencing milk quality is the diet of the cows. Just like humans, cows require a well-balanced diet to maintain good health, produce high-quality milk, and sustain optimal milk yields. Farmers and dairy producers must understand the relationship between nutrition and milk production to ensure both profitability and consumer satisfaction.
Why a Balanced Diet is Crucial for Cows
Cows need a combination of essential nutrients, including carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water, to function properly. A deficiency or imbalance in any of these can lead to health problems, reduced milk production, and poor milk quality.
A well-balanced diet provides the following benefits:
Better Digestive Health: Cows have a complex digestive system, with a rumen that requires fibrous and energy-rich foods. Proper nutrition helps maintain a healthy gut microbiome, leading to better digestion and nutrient absorption.
Increased Milk Production: A cow that receives adequate nutrition will produce more milk consistently, ensuring a good yield for dairy farmers.
Stronger Immunity: Nutrient-rich diets improve the cow’s immune system, reducing the risk of diseases and infections that can negatively impact milk quality.
Enhanced Reproductive Health: Proper nutrition also plays a role in fertility, ensuring a cow remains productive over time.
Key Nutrients That Affect Milk Quality
Milk composition is directly influenced by what a cow eats. Here are some key nutrients and their effects on milk quality:
1. Carbohydrates and Fiber
Carbohydrates are the primary energy source for cows. They come from sources like corn, silage, and hay. A diet rich in fiber helps maintain a healthy rumen, leading to better digestion and efficient milk production. Too much starch or low-fiber diets can lead to acidosis, negatively affecting milk yield and quality.
2. Proteins
Protein is essential for milk production because it directly contributes to milk protein content. Common protein sources include soybean meal, alfalfa, and legumes. A deficiency in protein can lead to lower milk yields and poor-quality milk with lower casein levels, which is vital for cheese production.
3. Fats
Adding healthy fats, such as those from flaxseed or cottonseed, can increase milk fat content. However, an excessive amount can interfere with digestion and reduce overall production efficiency. A balance is necessary to ensure milk has a good fat percentage, making it more desirable for consumers.
4. Vitamins and Minerals
Vitamins such as A, D, and E, along with essential minerals like calcium, phosphorus, and magnesium, play a significant role in milk quality. Calcium is particularly important for preventing milk fever, a common condition in dairy cows. Proper mineral balance also affects the shelf life and taste of milk.
5. Water
Water is often overlooked but is one of the most important nutrients for cows. A dairy cow can consume up to 50 gallons of water per day, and adequate hydration is essential for milk production. Poor water quality can lead to contamination and lower milk quality.
How Diet Influences Milk Composition and Taste
The diet of a cow not only affects the quantity of milk produced but also its composition, taste, and texture. Here’s how:
Milk Fat Content: Higher fiber intake increases milk fat, while too much starch can reduce it.
Protein Levels: Diets with balanced protein sources improve milk’s protein content, which is essential for cheese production.
The Role of Farmers in Maintaining a Balanced Diet
Farmers play a vital role in ensuring cows receive the right nutrients through:
Using Nutritional Planning: Consulting veterinarians and nutritionists to formulate a balanced diet tailored to their herd’s needs.
Rotating Feed Sources: Offering diverse feed options to prevent deficiencies and ensure high-quality milk production.
Monitoring Health and Milk Quality: Regular testing and observation help detect any dietary issues early.
Conclusion
A well-balanced diet is essential for maintaining cow health and optimizing milk quality. Providing the right mix of carbohydrates, proteins, fats, vitamins, minerals, and water ensures better digestion, increased production, and superior milk composition. Dairy farmers who prioritize nutrition will not only boost their profitability but also deliver healthier, better-tasting milk to consumers.

Top Benefits of Using Hominy Chop for Cattle Feed in Modern Farming
In modern cattle farming, providing nutritious and cost-effective feed is essential for maintaining animal health and optimizing productivity. Among various feed options, hominy chop for cattle has emerged as a popular choice due to its impressive nutritional profile and affordability. Derived from corn processing, hominy chop is gaining recognition as a valuable supplement in livestock diets.
This blog will explore the top benefits of using hominy feed and why it is becoming indispensable in sustainable and efficient cattle farming today.
What Is Hominy Chop and Why It’s Used in Cattle Feed
Hominy chop for cattle is a by-product obtained during the milling of corn. It consists primarily of the corn kernel's soft endosperm, bran, and some germ. As a result, hominy feed is rich in energy, fiber, and essential nutrients, making it an excellent addition to cattle rations.
Farmers and feed manufacturers utilize hominy chop because it provides a balance of carbohydrates and protein, which are crucial for cattle growth and milk production. Its coarse texture also supports healthy digestion by stimulating rumination.
Nutritional Benefits of Corn Hominy Feed in Cattle Diets
One of the main reasons corn hominy feed is favored in livestock nutrition is its high energy content. The carbohydrates in hominy are easily digestible, providing cattle with readily available fuel for daily activities and metabolic processes.
Additionally, hominy cattle feed contains a moderate level of protein, fiber, and essential minerals like phosphorus and magnesium. These nutrients promote muscle development, bone strength, and overall health in both dairy and beef cattle.
Regular inclusion of hominy feed for cattle in diets can enhance weight gain in beef cattle and improve milk yield and quality in dairy herds, supporting farmers’ economic goals.
Advantages of Using Hominy Feed for Cattle in Modern Farming Practices
Cost efficiency is a significant advantage of hominy feed for cattle. Compared to some traditional feeds, hominy chop offers excellent nutritional value at a lower price point, making it attractive for farmers aiming to reduce feed costs without compromising quality.
Moreover, hominy chop for cattle improves feed conversion efficiency. Cattle digest this feed easily, reducing feed wastage and promoting better nutrient absorption. Its fibrous nature also encourages rumen health by supporting the growth of beneficial microbes.
Another benefit is its versatility. Whether feeding dairy cows, beef cattle, or growing calves, hominy cattle feed can be incorporated into various ration formulations to meet different nutritional needs.
How Hominy Chop for Cattle Supports Sustainable and Efficient Farming
Sustainability is becoming a core concern in agriculture, and the use of by-products like corn hominy feed helps reduce waste generated by corn processing. Instead of discarding the milling leftovers, transforming them into nutritious cattle feed contributes to a circular economy within the farming ecosystem.
By utilizing hominy feed, farmers support environmental sustainability by lowering the demand for land and resources needed to grow additional feed crops. This efficient use of resources aligns with modern farming principles focused on minimizing environmental footprints while maximizing productivity.
Incorporating hominy chop for cattle in livestock diets offers numerous benefits for modern farmers. Its rich nutrient content, cost-effectiveness, and positive impact on cattle health make hominy feed a valuable feed ingredient in both dairy and beef farming.
As sustainability and efficiency remain priorities, corn hominy feed and hominy cattle feed provide practical solutions that support animal well-being and farm profitability. Farmers looking to enhance their feeding strategies should consider the advantages of hominy chop to achieve better results with lower costs.

What Factors Affect the Methane Yield from Rice Straw in Anaerobic Digestion?
Tumblr media
Website: https://www.grunerrenewable.com
India produces over 120 million tonnes of rice straw annually, and much of it is still burned in open fields, especially in northern states like Punjab and Haryana—contributing significantly to air pollution. But what if this agri-waste could be turned into a valuable fuel?
With rising interest in biogas and Bio-CNG, rice straw is gaining attention as a potential feedstock. But the challenge lies in its biodegradability and actual methane yield. So, what determines how much biogas we can extract from rice straw?
In this article, we’ll explore the key factors affecting methane yield from rice straw in anaerobic digestion, and how optimizing these can make rice straw a viable fuel for India’s renewable energy future.
🌾 Why Rice Straw?
Rice straw is:
Abundantly available in rice-producing regions
Rich in organic material (cellulose, hemicellulose)
A consistent seasonal biomass source
However, it also contains high amounts of lignin, silica, and fibrous material, which makes it difficult to break down in anaerobic digesters without proper pre-treatment.
Typical raw methane yield from untreated rice straw is 180–250 m³ of biogas per ton of dry matter (containing ~50–55% methane), translating to ~80–110 m³ of methane per ton. However, yields vary widely depending on the factors discussed below.
🔍 Factors Affecting Methane Yield from Rice Straw
1. Lignocellulosic Structure
Rice straw is made of:
Cellulose (32–47%)
Hemicellulose (19–27%)
Lignin (5–24%)
Lignin is resistant to microbial degradation, acting as a barrier to digestion. The higher the lignin content, the lower the methane yield. Thus, pre-treatment is often required to break down lignin and expose cellulose for microbial access.
2. Pre-Treatment Method
Pre-treatment improves biodegradability and methane production. Common methods include:
Pre-treatment
Benefit
Yield Impact
Steam explosion
Breaks lignin bonds
+20–40% methane
Alkaline (NaOH, Ca(OH)₂)
Delignification
+25–60%
Acid (H₂SO₄)
Hydrolysis of hemicellulose
+15–30%
Biological (fungi)
Natural degradation
Slow but eco-friendly
Mechanical (grinding)
Increases surface area
Mild improvement
Without pre-treatment, rice straw digests slowly and incompletely, producing sub-optimal gas volumes.
3. Carbon to Nitrogen (C/N) Ratio
Ideal C/N ratio for anaerobic digestion is 25:1 to 30:1. Rice straw has a high carbon content (C/N ratio of ~70:1), which slows microbial activity and reduces gas yield.
Solution: Co-digest with nitrogen-rich materials like:
Cow dung
Poultry litter
Food waste
This balances the nutrient mix and boosts microbial digestion, improving gas output.
4. Particle Size
Finer particles offer more surface area for microbial action. However, too fine a size may lead to slurry thickening and reduced digester efficiency.
Optimal particle size for rice straw: 2–5 mm after chopping or grinding.
5. Moisture Content
Rice straw is dry (~10–15% moisture), but anaerobic digestion requires 80–90% moisture content. Hence, it must be:
Soaked in water
Mixed with slurry or liquid waste (like cow dung slurry or effluent)
Proper moisture balance ensures bacterial mobility and gas release.
6. Retention Time
Rice straw takes longer to digest compared to food waste. Typical Hydraulic Retention Time (HRT) is 30–60 days, depending on the reactor design and pre-treatment.
Faster yields can be achieved with thermophilic digestion (50–55°C), though mesophilic (35–40°C) is more common in India.
7. Anaerobic Digester Design
The type of digester also impacts methane yield. Common digesters include:
CSTR (Continuously Stirred Tank Reactor) – Good for uniform mixing
Plug Flow Reactors – Suitable for high-solid feed like chopped straw
Batch Digesters – Cost-effective but slower
Efficient mixing and temperature control can increase methane production by 10–20%.
⚡ Practical Yield Potential from Treated Rice Straw
With proper pre-treatment and co-digestion:
Methane yield can reach 220–300 m³/ton of dry rice straw
This equals ~90–130 kg of Bio-CNG per ton
Energy content: ~45–55 kWh per ton
Digestate: High in potassium and phosphorus – valuable as organic fertilizer
✅ Environmental & Economic Benefits
Prevents stubble burning and air pollution
Creates rural income opportunities through biomass collection
Reduces dependency on LPG and diesel
Aligns with India’s SATAT scheme and Net Zero 2070 goals
🧠 Final Thought: Rice Straw Has Bio-CNG Potential—If Treated Right
On its own, rice straw is not an easy feedstock. But with the right pre-treatment, co-digestion strategy, and digester design, it becomes a powerful waste-to-energy resource.
At Gruner Renewable, we help agri-entrepreneurs, cooperatives, and industries tap into the biogas potential of rice straw through customized Bio-CNG plant solutions.
